Dear Spring Break Gym People,
The time has come. Spring break is a little over 5 weeks away, which gives you a perfect amount of time to work off all the calories you ate over Christmas break. It will take time. It will take motivation, and there will be moments where you’ll ask yourself, “Is this all worth it?” However, you can’t quit. You won’t get the spring break bod you’re looking for if you quit.
The first thing you have to do is make time for the gym. Yes, I believe you when you say your schedule is crazy hectic and you don’t have time for it, but if you are looking for that spring break bod, then you have to make time for it. You could go for an hour if you wanted. One hour out of the day isn’t asking a whole lot, and I’ve seen many people reading homework materials while on the elliptical or treadmill. It can be done.
Start small. Don’t walk into the gym and immediately expect to be able to run a few miles on the treadmill or lift heavier weights because you probably haven’t worked out in a while. It’s better to start with what you can do well than it is to struggle through what you can’t because you will get discouraged.
Set a realistic challenge for you like running one mile every other day or two. Then slowly work your way up to two miles. If you’re lifting, lift something that you can do several reps on. Then work your way up in weight.
Drink lots of water. You’ll be sweating so much of it out, and it’s important to stay hydrated along the way. While you’re at it, try to eat a little better these next few weeks too. Maybe cut out the side items and stick to entrées only with a water to drink. This will help you feel better throughout the day and during your workouts because you won’t feel as tired and sluggish.
Don’t try to look cute at the gym. You are not there to impress anyone else but yourself, so there is no need for make up or nice hair or whatever. Your clothes don’t have to match unless you just want them to for you. Don’t be afraid of sweating. Sweat a lot because it means you’re working for something.
Don’t give up. Times like these are tough. It’s difficult to make yourself get out of bed and go to the gym, but when you walk into Preston or whatever gym you use, just remember that most every other person in there is wanting to achieve the same results you’re looking for. You will want to look just as good as they do on spring break (if not better), so giving up is not the way to get there. You are fully capable of achieving the body you want for spring break, so go out there and get it!
