Ten Quotes To Make Your Monday Suck Less
Emma Beaudoin

Let’s face it, Mondays suck. These quotes help me stay motivated to get through the toughest days.

1. “Don’t be a defeatist, dear. It’s very middle class.” —Lady Violet Crawley, Downton Abbey

No one like Lady Vi to set people straight. We all know Mondays are awful, but letting them affect the rest of your day or week doesn’t help anything either. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and always have the sassy quips ready and waiting in your back pocket.

2. “I figure if I’m gonna be a mess, I might as well be a hot mess.” —Mindy Kaling

Smiling through the pain of Mondays, looking super cute, even if coffee is the only thing keeping me from passing out, and I want to kill everyone around me.

3. “Be pretty if you can, be witty if you must, but be gracious if it kills you.” —Elsie DeWolfe

For those people you just can’t deal but have to anyway.

4. “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” —Mary Oliver

The ultimate question of life. Ask yourself this, and then ask, “Okay, so what am I going to do to make that happen?”

5. “And then I thought, Well, before the adventure comes the unpacking.” —Miles Halter, Looking for Alaska

Let’s be real, college is great, but especially when taking general education classes, you get sick of doing things you don’t like and just want to jump right into your major classes. This quote reminds me that before we can get to the exciting things we want to do in life, we have to do the work needed to prepare so we can look back at the progress you’ve made proudly.

6. “If she gets her way, she will set our whole country in a roar.” —Sir Thomas Wyatt, The Tudors

Thomas was talking about Anne Boleyn when he said this in the show, and we all know how much she changed England. As a young woman trying to make her way in the world, this makes me want to go kick down some walls and make big, impactful change in the world. Even on a Monday.

7. “There are secret opportunities hidden inside every failure.” —Sophia Amoruso

Failure is one of my greatest fears. I’m still learning that it’s okay not to be perfect all the time because failing does have its benefits. Where would anyone be in the world if they didn’t fail a few times?

8. “Yesterday I was clever so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise so I am changing myself.” ~Rumi

I want to be able to change the world someday, but that takes a lot! So instead, I’ll become the best person I can be before trying to make the world better.

9.“Limits are for those who need them.” —Unknown

No letting those limits stop you! Push through! Even if it’s Monday!

10. “I can and I will. Watch me.” —Carrie Green

*kicks Monday’s butt*

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
