Being an educator isn't easy. You have to put up with students disobeying you and parents telling you how to do your job. I'm sure there have been times that you wanted to find a new job.
These are 5 reasons I hope you change your mind:
I appreciate you.
I know that high schoolers are sometimes hard to deal with and frustrating. I know that you put in countless hours of time and effort into assuring that my education was the best that you could possibly give me. I know that you feel so underpaid and under appreciated. I know that your job is incredibly hard and some days it doesn't feel worth it. I know you probably wonder if you make a difference or not. This is to let you know that I am so thankful for every lesson you taught me.
Thank you.
Thank you for being extremely tolerant and accepting of every single student that walked into your classroom. Thank you for teaching me not only the lesson I needed to pass your class, but also the lessons I needed to make it in life. Thank you for teaching me to empathize with others instead of teaching gossip and judgement. I can't thank you enough for loving me like your own child and wanting what was best for me. Thank you for seeing my potential when I couldn't and always encouraging me when I was ready to give up. Thank you for going above and beyond all expectations. Thank you for seeing me through graduation and still continuing to care for me and check in with me. Thank you for shaping me into the person I am today.
I hope you know how you impacted my life.
The memories I made in your class are some that I will cherish forever. Even when the part of the semester came when I didn't have your class, you were still my favorite. Because of you, my life is brighter and I am a better person. And I'm sure that so many of your other students will agree. Because of you I look at the world a little differently. I know some days it doesn't feel like you're making a difference but I promise that you are. I watched you get so frustrated that you could cry and I've seen you cry tears of joy. But no matter the situation you have made a difference in every life you've touched.
Please don't ever give up.
I know sometimes, at the end of a difficult day when no one wanted to pay attention or listen to what you had to say, it's easy to feel like you want to give up. I know you would rather do anything other than grade all of this week's (even this month's) assignments. I know your job doesn't always seem rewarding but please hold on and keep doing what you do, for kids like me. Because I look up to you and hope that one day I can be as smart, tolerant, and PATIENT as you are. Amazing and willing teachers like you are needed in this world.
I love you.
I love you from the bottom of my heart and I hope that in some way I have inspired you to continue in the same way that you did me.
