When I was a little girl I always looked up to my mother, but never realized how big of an impact she’d have on my life. As I grew older, I began to realize how amazing mothers can be, and the magnitude of their love. They carry the vessel of your very being for months, and have the one heart you truly know inside and out. Sometimes mothers end up being grandmothers, aunts, teachers or family friends. No matter who fits under the category of mother, there’s nothing quite like a mother’s love. So, here’s a letter to you, mom; although, 500 words can never truly express my gratitude.
Dear Mom,
Thank you for simply being yourself. You are a woman of strength and compassion, who is firm in what she believes; a traveler with admiration for the beauty of art and people. You taught me at a young age to explore my surroundings, and to be captivated by the nature and people around me. You made me excited to see what each day had to hold. Your encouragement in all that I do, brought me the confidence that I could do anything. As I grew older, that confidence started to dwindled, but you did not cease to uplift me.
Thank you for not telling me who I was to become, but instead guiding me into becoming who I am. You led me down the path of positivity rather than destruction. I didn’t always understand your rules or guidance, but I now understand that you were looking out for me, and you were often right. At times I wish I would have listened to what you had to say sooner, but now I have lived and learned from those mistakes. No matter how many wrongs I have committed or how many times I have disappointed you, you have still loved me endlessly.
Thank you for being my best friend and support group. I will encounter many people during my life time. Many of those I will lose, but I know no matter what, your friendship will remain constant. I know that even when I feel like I can face life on my own, you will always be there to catch me when I stumble. The only one who will keep my secrets and has a hug to cure the sadness.
Most of all, thank you for being my mother; a role model not only to me, but to my children to come. A woman who sets herself aside to make sure her family flourishes. A woman full of love and laughter, who seeks to find the joy in each new day. A woman who is not afraid to speak her mind, and can talk to a complete stranger like she’s known them for years. A woman I aspire to be like. Thank you for your constant love, support and guidance. My gratitude for you is endless, and I love you more every day. There’s nothing quite like a mother’s love.
Love always,
Your little girl
