To The Mother Who Decided That Race Was More Important Than Her Son's Health

You are the worst kind of person there is.

If your son or daughter was complaining of chest pains, would your first concern be whether or not the doctor was white or not? Well, apparently, this mother was. She cared more about the doctor's race than she did her son's health. Newsflash, race does not dictate intelligence. You should be so ashamed of yourself that you could even for a second think that that was OK.

After doing some research, I quickly learned that a number of the top-10 Cardiothoracic surgeons in Canada are not white. Would you have denied your son the best care if it meant the doctor was not white? If you answered yes to that question, then you have a lot more to worry about than the race of a doctor. These men and women that are there to help you and your son have completed the exact same twelve years school and training. By saying that you only wanted a white doctor means that their education and knowledge is only acceptable if they are white and by saying that, I assume you would rather have a White person with a business degree to treat your son than a trained doctor who isn't white.

"Can I see a doctor please that is white, that doesn't have brown teeth and that speaks English."
"Being white in this country I should just shoot myself."
"You're all attacking me because I'm white."

The are all quotes that this mother said in the midst of this video. I really wish she was joking when she claimed that the other people in the waiting room were only attacking her because she was white. Had any other person, black, Asian, Hispanic, etc. done the same thing, they would have been told the truth just like you were. They would have been told that they were a racist. They would have been told that they were a terrible mother/father.

Ma'am, you should be ashamed of calling yourself a mother. Ashamed of raising your son to grow up thinking that the only people that are intelligent enough to do anything successful are the people who look like you. You should be stripped of your title as a mother. A true mother does not have hate in her heart and only wishes the best for her children. What if your son had been having a seizure or an actual heart attack? Would you have made him sit there in pain until a white doctor was able to get there? Would you have risked your son's life just because you weren't too fond of the color of someone's skin? Do you think that the color of their skin will rub off on your son? If that's what you think then maybe you need to learn a thing or two about biology and anatomy.

The last thing I want to discuss is the fact that she said "I should just shoot myself" as if that would be such an amazing solution. Joking about killing yourself because you feel as if you're being discriminated against because you're white even though you made multiple racist remarks

You are the worst kind of person. You are the worst kind of mother...

If you can even call yourself that.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
