Philadelphia is amongst the top trendiest cities in the country. This trendiness is reflected in its food. “Eating for the gram” is a staple in our generation and there are tons of places in Philly where you can get the perfect shot for Instagram. If you didn’t take a picture of it, did you really eat it?
Mac Mart (104 S. 18th St., Philadelphia, PA 19103)
If you like macaroni and cheese, then you MUST check out Mac Mart. What once started as a food truck, is now a trendy little shop that sells solely mac and cheese (the best you will ever have!) I will admit that I went there three times in the first eight weeks of the store being open (embarrassing I know). They have super cool varieties such as buff chick (buffalo chicken, ranch drizzle, potato chip panko crunch) and lobster mac, with perhaps the best being the Cowboy Cup (jalapeno infused mac with bacon, ranch, and cornbread crunch). A “create your own” option is available as well with tons of options to add in. Good luck eating the ONE POUND serving they give you, although it tastes like heaven in a bowl, so it is totally doable. If you can’t make it into the store, make sure to follow them on Instagram and Twitter to see what beautiful mac and cheese creations you are missing out on.
Hai Street Kitchen ( multiple locations in PA and NY)
If you haven’t been to Hai Street Kitchen yet, then you better get your camera ready to capture the gloriousness of the sushi burrito. What could possibly be better than a combination of sushi and burritos? Both of which are amazing foods! The sushi burrito is basically just a giant sushi roll cut in half instead of into pieces, and is eaten like a burrito. Pick a signature roll or create your own unique combination made with fresh natural ingredients. If you don’t like nori (the seaweed wrap) then make it into a bowl or a salad! It comes out looking beautiful and tasting delicious. The colors in a Hai Street sushi burrito look like a rainbow! So pretty it doesn’t even need a filter!
Big Gay Ice Cream (1351 South Street. Between Broad Street & Juniper Street, and locations in New York City)
One of the most Instagram worthy places to eat by far is Big Gay Ice Cream. Not only do they have funky cool ice cream concoctions, but they have funky cool décor as well (which makes for the best insta pics). I mean, the place is called Big Gay Ice Cream, and they have ice creams with names like “Salty Pimp" (vanilla, dulche de leche, sea salt, chocolate dip). Can it get much better? Choose from a traditional ice cream or go extreme with toppings such as wasabi pea dust and elderflower syrup. No matter what you choose, it will be one of the best ice creams you have ever had (make sure you get sea salt on it. You wont regret it). I am so in love with Big Gay that I have a sticker of their signature rainbow ice cream cone logo on my laptop.
