You’ve done it! You’re about to becoming a part of a monumental brotherhood. Please do not take this lightly. Most importantly, do not let anyone attempt to downplay your achievement. What you are about to do is something that many have tried, few have had access to, and even fewer have achieved and that is enter into the fold that is Morehouse College. This place will position you to achieve great things not only on the microscopic level, but even more so on a macroscopic level.

Understand that this journey will be filled with many ups and downs but as long as you keep believing in yourself and pushing forward, you can and will achieve every goal that you set. Morehouse College is a place like no other. I am sure that all of you got offers from around the world, with scholarship money to match, but the awakening that you will receive at Morehouse is unmatched. Most importantly, come with an open mind, a passion for excellence, and a commitment to being your best self. Do not only think about what Morehouse can do for you, but also what you can do for Morehouse.

For the brother who felt like the outcast amongst his peers. This House is for you.

For the brother who is outspoken and speaks up when the feel it necessary. This House is for you.

For the brother who wishes to grow both as a man and academically. This House is for you.

For the brother who is in search of a mentor, a big brother, male friends, and/or father figures. This House is for you.

For the brother that simply wants to walk in the footsteps and join the ranks of great men. This House is for you.

Morehouse College is not just a place, but it is an experience. It is understood that you are excited to join the ranks, but also know that WE are just as excited to have you. The world needs you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
