There Is More To Summer Than Just The Beach

Yes, it is nice to have a break and be able to relax, but I'd rather be working and making money.

It's finally summer. We get three months to do whatever we want. No school, no deadlines, and no stress. Now it's time for everyone to figure out what exactly to do with themselves with their newly found free time. For most people, summer means spending every free moment at the beach. Not for me.

I like to be with my friends. I like not having anything to do except relax in the comfort of my bed. I like the beach. I like to be out in the sun. However, I would rather spend my free time working.

We're in college so we all struggle with money, that's just a fact. So why would I spend more of my money to stay or commute to the beach all the time? Instead, I can work. Then, when summer is over it won't be as hard. I won't be as strapped for money as usual.

Yes, it is nice to have a break and be able to relax, but you can do that and still have time to do other things.

It's the beginning of the summer. Everyone is getting out of school and there's so much going on. Everywhere you look, places are going to be hiring for the summer. If you like to spend so much time at the beach, get a job there. Then, you get your beach time and a little bit of money.

But like I said, there is so much more to summer than just being at the beach. I mean, you can volunteer and build your resumé. Find an internship, it'll definitely help you in the long run. You can take classes to get ahead in your degree or you could help a family out and babysit/house sit/dog sit.

There is so much more to summer break than being at the beach.

I work. Some travel. Some study abroad. Some babysit. Some take classes. There is a whole world of things to do. Don't waste a full three months at the beach.

I have nothing against the beach. I love being in the sun just as much as the next girl. However, I won't waste an entire summer there. There are so many other things to do.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
