The benefits of small government.

More Or Less Government
answerinhistory

From the days of our founding, the United States' citizens have battled for more or less government control. Federalists and Anti-Federalists then; Democrats and Republicans now. There was good reason for the Anti-Feds to fear an overbearing government, but an equally relevant argument is made by the Federalists to want a protective overarching one. Let's explore some examples of when the left failed and why the Anti-Federalists were right then, and the Republicans are right now.

1. Those pesky children's labor laws. In 1916, the National Consumers League helped pass the Keating-Owen Act. It was the first time in our history where the left succeeded in passing any sort of federal child labor law.

2. That 40-hour work week. I can't believe we have to pay our employees extra for their hard work. It's not like they have a family at home that would appreciate more time with them.

3. The GI Bill. Don't get me wrong! I love our troops! But thanking them in the streets and a 10 percent discount at Cracker Barrel should be enough.

4. NASA. Don't get me started on this hoax. To think the government is trying to fool me into believing that a hunk of metal could fly up to the cheese ball in the sky and come back with anything besides fancy dairy products? That's absurd.

5. Freedom of Religion? More like freedom of Jesus! This country was founded on Judeo-Christian ideals and beliefs, and if you don't like that then you can get out!

6. Women's rights. Let's be honest here, there is no better place for a woman than in the kitchen. She ain't smart. She ain't strong. But, at least she can cook a mean casserole.

7. Gay Marriage. Eww...

8. Public Transportation. If my poor old Mama can't get a ride to the grocery store because there is no one left to give her a ride, then she can starve.

9. Unions. Nothing pisses me off more than a bunch of tree-hugging hippies thinking they deserve livable wages, job security, health insurance, pensions and paid leave. They ought to be thankful I let them work for me in the first place.

10. Slavery. I mean ... at least they had a roof over their head and food in their bellies.

11. Gun Control. I stick by my guns when I say Obama will take away our second amendment rights. It's been seven and a half years, but that don't mean he don't have time. Look at Australia and Japan! They done implemented strict gun laws, and their firearm crime is outrageous!

So as you can plainly see, the left may have won the battles in these historical examples, but there is no arguing the Right will always be on the Right side of history.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
