What Happens The Month Before High School Graduation

So close, yet so far.

What Happens The Month Before High School Graduation

Ah, the month leading up to graduation. A beautiful and reflective time of disliking (let's be real, hating) your fellow classmates and trying to pass physics without wanting to throw yourself off a bridge. It's just wonderful. Every adult you come in contact with has some golden piece of advice for you, and dragging yourself out of bed each morning to go sit around for four hours becomes more and more difficult as graduation looms on the horizon. Call me a negative nelly, but the end of senior year is not a time I would like to re-live. Here are 11 things that happen during this glorious month of our lives.

1. Extreme Anxiety

There's a constant sense of panic in the back of your mind if you haven't decided where you'll be spending the next four (maybe five? I don't judge) years.

2. FOMO

It's not that much better if you do know where you're going, because your extreme FOMO (fear of missing out, for those who aren't with it) kicks in every time you see an Instagram or Snapchat post in your future college town.

3. People assume you know exactly what you want to do for the rest of your life.

People ask you what you'll be majoring in as if you have your life together and you laugh to yourself.

4. If you somehow do know what you'll be doing for the rest of your life, someone else always seems to know what you should be doing instead.

Because people you rarely ever see definitely know what's best for you.

5. You go to school maybe two to three times a week.

You strategically plan when you're going to miss school as your absence count grows higher and higher.

6. You practically stop caring about your appearance.

LOL at the people who still wear "real clothes" to school. You can't remember the last time you actually wore makeup. Or did your homework. Or studied for anything. It's pretty much optional at this point.

7. You've wondered multiple times what the minimum GPA is to stay accepted to college.

While no one seems to know the answer, hopefully it's not too high. Senioritis is in its prime as we speak.

8. Your tolerance level reaches an all-time low.

Someone so much as even gives you a stank look in the hallway and the claws come out. You're a senior with no time for attitude.

9. Netflix becomes your life.

Part of you wants to go to every sporting event and take in the last month of school to the fullest, but the other part convinces you that sitting your butt on the couch is much better.

10. You face some harsh judgement.

If you're going to an SEC school, you've become used to old people low-key assuming you'll become a crazy party animal who eventually flunks out. NBD.

11. You dream about putting on your cap and gown on the daily.

Because we all know it's going to be the best day of our lives.

Don't get me wrong, I've made some amazing memories in high school that I wouldn't trade for anything. However, the stress that comes with taking finals, acing AP exams, and planning grad parties all while making sure your future school has all of your somewhat unnecessary paperwork is enough to make anyone want a good stress-induced cry sesh. All I've got to say is, the day I walk across that stage and get my diploma will be one for the books.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
