A big shout out for the Universal Music Group for allowing me to keep my job this long at The Odyssey. And now that the minor shout out has been mentioned, it's time for another collaboration with the UMG! This week, a brand new band that I still have no idea the translation is in English: Mondo Cozmo. If I could figure out any two-word phrase more confusing than this I could, but I can't. And with that, let's do this.
Who Is Mondo Cozmo?
Mondo Cozmo is actually the stage name of man by the name of Joshua Ostrander, born in Philadelphia, but mainly based in Los Angeles. His origins begin with a friend named Greg Lyons, which is where him, along with Lyons played in an indie rock duo named "Laguardia." Ostrander went solo in April of 2016, and he has continued doing so ever since. His second solo single, "Shine," has been making some traction as of late. The Review:
So I am going to come off and say it right now, indie music isn't my favorite genre, and there's a good chance I will probably not like it by the time this article publishes. Since Mondo Cozmo is an all out Indie band, this won't be on my playlist recommendations anytime soon. There is a bright side to this one, my young indie loving readers. The sound that Mondo Cozmo has fits all descriptions that is indie and the fact that he is only been active for approximately a year gives himself a fantastic opportunity to grow and further expand in the music industry, and not just in Universal Music Group itself. And that's another slight issue I have, Mondo Cozmo is relatively new. I don't have much history to go back on, and this band is still relatively unknown. If I reviewed this band a year from now, my review would be entirely different. The one thing Mondo Cozmo needs is time, and from there, I can make a different determination. I need to see more music produced from here on out, because I do see the potential, now I just need to see the results.
My Conclusion:
To my indie-loving readers out there, watch out for Mondo Cozmo. Their sound is quite interesting, the lyrics are unique, and to be honest, his songs kinda throw me for a loop, but in a good way. They chose the wrong person to review this band due to my dislike for indie music, but hey, what can you do? I believe that every type of music has a place in the world, and this is definitely no exception. I do wish him the best of luck in future endeavors has with hard work and determination, the results will show for itself.
