Now that the July 2017 is marked off of the calendar and back to school ads are all over the place, all students know what is coming. School.

For many it is just readjusting to their old routine from the previous school year and having to cope with the fact that when September hits they will have to wake up before lunchtime again. College Freshman, however, are planning their first big exodus from the life they grew so comfortable in. As an incoming college freshman myself, I am feeling the hard hitting excitement and stress that comes with the idea of beginning college.

These are just a few moments that all that all incoming freshman have thought as move-in day approaches.

1. The “I picked the BEST School” Moment

You are totally infatuated with my school. You love the location, the campus, the classes, the people, you love everything. Every time you think about your school, you just get more and more excited to be a part of the community. You are just so happy about your future there.

2. The “Adulthood is Here and it Sucks” Moment

Everything is on us now, high school was graced with dad’s home cooked meals and mom’s stain removing skills but now we are on our own. We have to make sure we get all of our paperwork in, make some money to help cover the cost of tuition, or at least buy that tapestry on urban outfitters that will help define your aesthetic perfectly.

3. The “I’m going to Miss Everybody so Much” Moment

As an extremely sentimental person, I have this moment multiple times in a day. It’s when you think about high school or your childhood and feel nostalgic about leaving that part of your life behind. It hits when you are talking to an underclassman at your high school, or when you are laying at the beach where you and your family went every summer. It’s when you get home and your dog wags his tail so much you think it is going to fall off, and it’s when you are texting your best friend a rant about someone you went to high school with. The idea of having all of those dynamics changing stirs a lot of emotions where you wish you could slow it all down, that is until you remember the exciting things coming up as you start college.

4. The “Just Start School Already” Moment

When you are laying at home with nothing to do, or tired of going to the same three hang out spots with the friends you have had all of high school, all you want is a big change. You just want to be on campus making all sorts of new memories, but you'll just have to wait a few weeks longer.

5. The “It’s Here” Moment

We’ve all had that one moment of realization that the day we have been waiting for will finally come and our lives will totally change. There is a mix of nerves and readiness but no emotion is stronger than the excitement of starting college, since the next four years could seriously be the best four years of our lives.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
