Thank You, Mom

You don't get enough credit.

I never thank you enough for all that you do for me. I couldn’t imagine having a more influential, understanding mom. It may be cliche, but I honestly have no idea where I would be without you. I do not thank you enough for all that you do.

Thank you for always being there and being the one person I could count on no matter what. I know if something goes wrong or if I need someone, you will be there.

Thank you for being my shoulder to cry on, my maid, and my taxi. Also, thank you for never forgetting to pick me up. I will never be able to thank you enough for all those hours you spent laying in my bed, holding me, and telling me everything will be alright and all the times you’ve waited on me hand and foot whenever I was sick or had surgery.

Thank you for ALWAYS putting others before yourself, although you need to worry about making yourself happy first sometimes. You never complain about having to help others. That, to me, is admirable.

Thank you for stressing education from Kindergarten on. If it was not for you making us stop to do homework right after school and for calling out study guides and spelling words, I would not be as educated as I am.

Thank you for staying calm through everything, even the hard times. I know I was a difficult child sometimes.

Thank you for being strong and for never giving up. When you got sick, I thought I would lose you. Instead of throwing yourself a pity party, you stayed positive and became the “rock” of our family. You have held our family together for as long as I can remember.

Thank you for always supporting me in good decisions and for telling me whenever I make stupid decisions. Thank you for teaching me right from wrong.

Thank you for always telling me I am beautiful and for making me feel my best when I feel anxious or depressed.

Because of you, I have had a best friend. I hear a lot of people say, “be their parent, not their friend,” but you have been both. You have guided me in the right direction, but have also been by my side through it all. I can tell you everything and expect a life lesson out of it. I would be lost without you, mom.

I’ll always be your baby. I love you, momma.

Love,

Your Little Girl

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
