When I was little I would watch you, just like I still do today. I would watch you do all you do for me and the rest of the family. Whether it was packing lunch, doing laundry, driving us all around, or just being a friend, you were always there. I would watch in awe of the superhero that is my mother.

To start I just want to say thank you, Mom. Thank you for all the sacrifices you make, you always put everyone before yourself, making sure everyone is settled before you are. I have never met someone as selfless as you are. Thank you for the advice. You always know what to say and how to fix every situation I may get myself into. Thank you for the comfort. For always being a safe place to go when I need to get away from the world. Thank you for always listening to me when I vent and for rubbing my back whenever I ask. Thank you for being a role model and for inspiring me to be the woman I am today. Whenever I questioned who I wanted to be in life, I would ask myself what you would do. I would ask myself this because you handled everything with grace but never let anyone walk all over you and I wanted to be just like that. Thank you for being a superhero. I truly believe you are super human because you are the only person I know who can drive all day while doing three different things at a time, remember all the things the family has to do, throw everything together at the last minute, and do it all with a smile on your face. Also, I never ever hear you complain. Thank you for being a protector. I am blessed because I go day to day knowing that if something were to happen to me, my mom would be there to fix it. I know someone will always be in my corner through thick and thin. Thank you for being a friend. I am so lucky because when I count my best friends I count my mom on that list too. I can confide in you and share things with you without getting a lecture. You keep all my secrets and never ever let me down. We have movie nights, ice cream dinners, and laugh until we cannot breathe. We have inside jokes that are never not funny.

Finally, thank you for being a mom. Not only a mom but the best mom I could ever ask for. Thank you for always knowing the answers to my questions and always answering my late-night calls. For always knowing how to calm me down when I’m upset and how to pick me back up when a need a boost. For always doing all you can for me and the family even though that means giving up things for yourself. Thank you for showing me what a mom is and for being the best a mom could ever be.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
