When someone asks, “Who is your favorite super hero?” most people go straight to thinking about DC or Marvel comic super heroes. People forget about the super heroes right in front of them in their everyday lives. Today, if someone asked me who my favorite super hero was, I would respond with two words, my mom.
Moms have the hardest job in the world and don’t receive a lot of credit for it. Even when they go to work, they’re constantly working two jobs, the job that pays them money and the job of being a mom. My mom keeps the family together and leads us in the right direction. We would be lost without her. She constantly does things for me that doesn’t have to be done. She doesn’t do these things because she has to either. She does them because she wants to. For example, for most holidays, she sends a care package to me full of goodies, and she brings me items to me at school when I leave them at home.
She supports me and my brother in everything we do, whether it is through school, work or an activity we enjoy. Of course, she constantly reminds us that she’s our mother, not our best friend, and I honestly wouldn’t want to have it any other way.
Mom, while you deserve so much more than what you will receive on Mother’s Day, know that Stephen and I will always love you, even when you are disappointed in us. We know that it’s because you just see the potential in us and only want us to succeed.
Although “mom” isn’t listed as a job title, what is included in being a mom is. You are a guidance counselor, chef, editor, teacher and trainer, and the list goes on and on. From day one, you’ve dedicated your time to making sure we are safe, happy, fed and so much more. You drove us to games and practices, helped us with homework and started teaching us before we even started school. You still edit my papers when I email them to you, even when it's last minute, and I couldn’t be more grateful. You make sure that we have important and memorable experiences, like the time you took Stephen and I to Washington DC to see President Reagan's funeral procession to the Capitol.
I could go on and on about why my mom is my super hero, but I won’t bore you with all the details because there are a lot. Thank you for giving me all of the opportunities and experiences that I have had. I wouldn’t want to have anyone else as my mom.
Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!
Love,
Your Favorite Daughter
