5 Reasons My Mom Is My Best Friend

Not often enough do I show my appreciation for my Mom. Growing up we have always had unique relationship. She has always acted upon her motherly responsibilities first, but then she's my friend. Most parents would not agree to the idea of being your child's friend but I would not want it any other way. Here is 5 reasons, which is not nearly enough, why and how my mom is my best friend:

1. She has always known my friend's true intentions before I did.

I use to always get upset when she would tell me she didn't like one of my friends, but I would always find out sooner or later why not. She has always had the best instinct when it comes to people.

2. I can tell her everything.

We have such a comfortable relationship that we can talk about anything under the sun. The best possible thing is knowing that I can tell her anything without the fear of her disowning me or judging me. She always guides me in the right direction.

3. We have the same sense of humor.

Nothing is more satisfying than having the same sense of humor as someone else, especially if it is your mom. Just one glance after something humorous was said, we both will burst out laughing because the same exact thing will run through our minds. It is absolutely grand!

4. She has always supported my goals and dreams.

No matter how big of a task or how wild the dream, she has never discouraged me. I could never express how grateful I am for that. She always reminds me how proud she is of me, and it is the best feeling in this world to hear that.

5. She knows me better than anyone.

She knows when I need a little extra love or when I have woke up on the wrong side of the bed. She knows what makes me sad, what grinds my gears, and what makes me happy. No matter how far apart we are she always knows when something is wrong.

I pray that I am half the woman my mother is. I would not be who I am without her love and guidance. I wish everyone had the same relationship with their mothers, because I could not imagine having it any other way.

Mom,

Thank you for being my best friend all these years. I could never express how grateful I am for all you have done for me or for all the love you have given me. I am your biggest fan. I love you, so much!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
