College is incredibly hectic. Between classes, mounds of homework and projects, trying to maintain a social life, and keeping the freshman fifteen (or sometimes 20) at bay, you barely have the time to stop and think. You fall into a crazy routine, and by the miracles of all miracles you get everything you need to do done. But suddenly, you realize you haven't called either your mom or your dad in an extremely long time.
Throughout high school, your parents were always there at the end of the day to ask how your day went and whether or not you learned anything at school. They are always there, and so conversation is always easy. But suddenly, you end up at college, and you have to consciously remember to call your parents every once in a while, just to make sure they know you're still alive. They are the most important people in your life, and yet they tend to appear on the bottom of your list of things to do. We forget to call our parents because we know they are always there for us. They are always in the background cheering us on, and we always know they will have our back no matter what. We don't have to call and talk to them every day, because we know they'll still care and be happy if we can manage to call them once a month. College is completely crazy, but amidst all that craziness, our parents are a constant that we have to remember, and I'm sorry I tend to forget.
Well, this is my apology. I'm sorry I don't call every day. I'm sorry I don't always let you know what's going on in my life. I'm sorry I forgot to tell you about the amazing test grade I got, or the screaming match I got in with my ex. Life gets crazy, and it's hard to keep track of all the things I keep meaning to tell you.
Just know: you are the most important people in my life. You are always the people I first want to tell when something happens, even if I do constantly forget. I miss you almost every day, but I have no time to stop and think about that when I have an eight page paper due the next morning. I'm sorry I seem bored with the conversation sometimes, I'm just stressed out by the project due next week, and I know I should be working on that.
We all miss and love our parents, and we have to make sure they know that. We all need to make a concerted effort to call our parents more. Even if only for five minutes, hearing our tired, stressed voices makes them more happy than I think most college students can truly understand. I'm sorry I don't call as often as I should, but just know I love you and you will always be the most important people in my life. I'll try to make sure I let you know the next time some big important thing happens, and I'll also try to make sure I call just to say hi.
