Admit it: We have all seen those girls who dress in short shorts and bikini tops. We have all even seen this trend on models, such as the Victoria's Secret Angels, Gisele Bundchen, Tyra Banks, and many others. While these women are beautiful, there's one thing that sets them apart from realistic women today: modesty.
When I say modesty, I don’t mean dressing out of style or dressing in clothing that is too big, plain out frumpy, and not you. By modesty, I mean not revealing too much of yourself. Modesty is keeping your body covered in places where it should be and not exposing the parts that should be kept private. This is an important rule to remember especially during swimsuit season. Besides, do you really think you should post that selfie of you in your bikini? Especially for the world (plus your future employers) to look at? I don’t advise it, but the choice is all up to you.
In reality, real professional women do not show up to their workplaces dressed like this. Real women dress in more business-casual or professional-wear. If they show up in clothing that is too revealing, they may be fired or asked to go home and change. This also happens in some schools today. Sometimes, parents may even be contacted to be made aware of the situation.
Modesty is a personal issue for all of us. It is something I support. It is possible to look modest and chic. Being around someone that is practically half-naked is always uncomfortable, especially for those that are wearing clothes. I can’t imagine sporting short shorts out in public and I don’t want to. My motto is: If it’s something my grandma would wear or at least approve of, then it’s okay.
In turn, modesty is a highly-debated issue. While we each have our personal preference and style, I believe that we should at least try to keep it covered. We are all beautiful in our own way. We should desire to express our beauty in a way that is clean for all and safe to the eyes. After all, what is seen cannot be unseen.
As far as the issue of models and revealing girls go, we must be aware of what the media is trying to do. We must be aware that this is for sex appeal and for attention, in the completely wrong ways. Even though she may turn heads, she too is a woman with thoughts, dreams, and hopes for the future. However, it is a truly modest person that is by far even more gorgeous. They have decided to keep themselves sacred and pure. They have decided to keep their self-dignity and self-respect.
In turn, I believe that if we speak up and tell people to go put on some clothes or better yet become more opinionated, then we may just have a cleaner society after all. This change starts with YOU! Go out there and make a difference!
