"A Modest Proposal" Of Minimum Wage And Pay Equality
wktv

The push for a higher minimum wage has increased in America within past years. Over 75 million Americans in 2015 were living off of the $7.25 per hour pay rate, the majority of which are young adults and those who have been lazy and careless with their lives. However, it is mostly women who point this problem out to society because, I mean, they literally notice everything. We (society) see it all the time, the younger generations walking down the street texting on cell phones and smoking cigarettes in McDonalds’ or Bojangles’ uniforms. Does anyone else see anything wrong with this picture?

People complain about not having enough money to survive off of, yet they have money to maintain cell phones and cigarettes? I mean really, a phone is a want, not a need. If people needed cell phones to survive, then all the newborn babies, infants, and small children wouldn’t exist and to get technical about it, we would not be here today because we would have died a long time ago! Or better yet, would have never been in existence! And these people are killing themselves with cigarettes anyway, so they might as well get rid of the cell phone if they “can’t afford it,” right?

We also have the women in society who feel that they deserve equal pay as men for the same occupation and position. Are they wanting to become the “Alpha Male?” Because that’s what it sure sounds like. A woman was born a woman for a reason and should not ever tell society they deserve more. It’s not like they do anything hard, such as giving birth to a child! Besides, these days people can’t tell who is what gender anymore. This sure does seem like a confusing society, does it not?

To solve this confuzzledness, I am proposing to send all these complainers into Suzanne Collins’ way of society. They shall enter an arena and fight to become victors of higher wages of their choice for a particular job. That seems like a reasonable wage, does it not? It’s a wage of their choice than what they were originally making! What a raise! That should help them out so much more...right? And to provide all the cigarettes they wish? Now, that’s the life. Or if they want to ruin their lives more, than they may choose a lower wage. Besides, it’s all up to them! May the odds be ever in their favor!

Furthermore, since the women are the ones who seem to be the main problem, we might as well throw them all in at once and enjoy multiple catfights at the same time on our television screens. I mean, there’s no sense in not enjoying other people's pettiness. That would be a waste of entertainment! And while we’re at it, let's make them fight nude since the subject of body shaming (such a pitiful thought) is constantly on their minds as well, and if they have any other issues with society, they could then demonstrate their “issues.”

These people, mainly women, would more than likely consider protesting, finding a new job, or just sitting back and continuing to destroy their lives. But what good would that do? The government and/or the head boss never listens to the societal opinions anyway, even if made public, and when they do, nothing ever happens. They all believe that their crap smells like roses and that they are the definition of perfection. Or will even say that they simply do not have time for such “issues”. Well, who has time for the higher up? Systems like these literally take forever, and by the time they decide to make a decision, it is too late. People would already be dead from all the cigarettes they smoked or from not “affording a cell phone,” by the time the government and/or head boss would take anything into consideration. Protesting for any reason gets no attention whatsoever, getting a job is too much work, but for some reason being lazy gets people to where they want to go.

As readers of this may be able to tell, my modest proposal is obviously the best choice. It totally makes complete sense for these complaining, confused citizens to just fight out their problems for what they want instead of normally accepted societal versions of solving problems. Maybe those high ranking people will also find a way to stop being aggravated by the low ranking ones by just throwing them into the arena. It all seems completely legit, does it not? And it’s not like people won't die waiting for the government and/or the head boss. It’s a win - win for everyone!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
