A Mission Trip Prayer

"And the master said to the servant, 'Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.'" Luke 14:23

I have the amazing opportunity in the next several months to go on two mission trips. One will be to Baltimore, Maryland with 502 other college students. The other will be to Nicaragua with a group of high school and college students from all over the world. I know that God is going to show up in big ways on both of these trips. Here is my prayer for myself as I head into these trips and for anyone else who may be preparing to go on a mission trip:

Dear God,

I pray for the safety of myself and those travelling with me. Place Your hand of protection over us for the duration of our time there as well as on our drives/flights there and back.

I pray for the cities and countries we are going to, God, and for the people there. Whatever struggles they are facing, whatever burdens are on their backs right now, take it from them and show them how much You value them. If there are specific ways that we can be used to encourage and love them, then let us be used in those ways.

I pray for myself and the members of my team. Prepare our hearts. Give us the strength and energy that we are going to need to serve each day. Use this time away from the routine of our every day lives for us to not only grow Your kingdom, but also to grow ourselves. Push us out of our comfort zones, even though that might not be what we want. May we come away from these trips with an even clearer picture of who You are.

I pray that I will not doubt the things that You can do in me and through me. Rid me of all the anxieties and insecurities I have. Let me simply be a vessel that You fill with Your Holy Spirit so that I can pour into every person I meet.

I pray that ultimately the glory is given to You, not to us. This trip is not to build ourselves up, to portray an image that we want the world to see. Rather, this trip is to bring Your love and goodness into places that need it, no matter what ministry or project we will be involved in while there. It is all in Your name that we are going, so let us not lose sight of that.

Thank You for loving me so well. Thank You for pursuing me every single day. Thank You for grace that is greater than any of my sins. Thank You for calling me 'daughter.'
