Here we are in the midst of the cold winter months, and for many of us in the freezing North of Midwest, spending our time in the sun and at a cabin by the water sounds a hell of lot more pleasurable than the snow we're dealing with now.
If you've spent a good deal of time at the lake, you'll know the struggles of lake life deprivation. There's just something about a summer day at the lake that keeps you missing all throughout the year. For you, whether it's the sunsets on the water, the views of the trees, or being on a boat crashing against the waves, here is a list we can all read to remind us of those terrific summer weekends we experience before school and winter calls us back to our normal lives.
1.) Friends
Bringing friends--whether you're young or old--means the craziness and fun that usually occurs at home escalates with your pals at the lake. If you're lucky to have a boat or a few jetskis, you know its impossible to compare that kind of water fun to anything else. It's also a long-term sleepover. The best conversations happen throughout a chill weekend at the lake.
2.) The Water
Spending literally an entire day skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, and jumping off the boat, and waking up the next day sore from being thrown off or holding yourself up isn't necessarily an unenjoyable form of soreness.
3.) Drinks
Enjoying a cold beer or alcoholic beverage (or lemonade) is somehow always better near the lake. Ask anyone and they'll agree.
4.) Campfires
The scent of burning pine trees in a fire pit smell better on nights at the lake, with or without marshmallows or s'mores.
5.) Fishing
Fishing in the morning (or any other time of day) is an experience, whether you find it exhilarating or a complete bore. Additionally, fried fish tastes fresher and better after catching it yourself.
6.) Sunning
Basking in the sun reading or snoozing is also always better alongside a lake shore. Apparently, many things are always improved by a lake nearby.
7.)The Docks
Having a dock off the shore means dipping your feet in the water, watching fish swim around the bottom, and waving to the people in boats passing by (if you're in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, you've got to represent and respect the Minnesota Nice stereotype).
8.) Fresh Air
Going on long walks or runs on any trails or roads on a sunny day offers the freshest air and the perfect opportunity to clear your mind.
9.) Peace
Enjoying the serenity that is waking up to steaming coffee on a cool morning, sitting with views of a sunrise through the pine trees and off the lake's reflection.
The best advice? Take pictures and soak it in while you can.
