Missing Summer A Little Extra Today

The great things about summer that we can all agree on.

Can you hear it? The chirps of the crickets and the crackling of the fire? Can you see it? The fireflies lighting the night skies and your body being blessed by the sun's kiss? Those are the signs of summer and the things I miss about that season. It has been too long my old friend. The winter has extended past its expectancy and I long for your sweet summer breezes.

You always signified the respite from learning and promises of no worries. We would stay up late into the night laughing and smiling over the camp fire with a burnt s'more or two. You always knew how to have a good time; whether it was attending a concert out in a field, going to the beach, or lounging around the pool.

Where have you been? My skin is chapped by the harsh winds of winter and I am constantly cold. I am tired of waiting. I am tired of the coldness with dirty snow always within my sight. My body is tired of bearing all the weight of numerous layers of clothing because each building is at a different temperature. People are already anxiously awaiting your arrival and have tricked themselves to believe that warmer weather is here. I see guys wearing shorts and people wearing light jackets. How I wish, I could be wearing my flip flops and discard the layers of clothing that would be unnecessary for summer.

Today has been a nice day. The first nice day where the snow is actually melting off the ground considerably. Spring has been in our presence for a while now but the winter still exists. Here in New England, the weather is constantly changing and it waits for no one. People are walking around celebrating the nice weather with fewer layers of clothes but it will not last. Summer is the only promise of warmer times but it feels so far away.

I can not wait to reunite with old friends from high school and catch up. What a year it has been, full of memories and new friends. We will go our separate ways this summer back to our respective hometowns where most of us will be completing our internships. Some of us may even have jobs or commitments to attend to back home while others will take a vacation with their families. We should make plans to meet up over the summer. It will be strange not to see you everyday or hear your voice. We could do things that we could not do at school because transportation was always hard to come by as a freshman. Summer will be fun and I can not wait for better weather. Waiting for Summer.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
