14 Things I Can't Do During the School Year

School's cool, but I really like sleeping. And food. Food's also really good.

It's that time of year again. School is just around the corner and I'm doing my best to get hyped for junior year. I'm tackling a lot this year with debate and work and school and extracurriculars, but it's nothing I can't handle. This school year has got me feelin' some type of way, so here's 14 things I'll miss about summer.

1. Naps on naps on naps.

I'm almost certain I averaged 2-3 naps a day this summer. Oh summer 2K16, you treated me well. I'll miss you.

2. Being homework-less.

I'm really good at procrastinating. I'm like a procrastination princess. It's bad and I know I have to work on it, but it's nice not having homework. However, when I actually do my homework, I want it perfect and I stay up 'til the early hours finishing it. I probably look worse than Squidward at that point.

3. Eating whenever I want to.

Eating is wonderful. Eating freely is also wonderful. Not being able to eat freely makes me sad. So, it's easy to imagine that not being able to walk downstairs to my kitchen when my stomach rumbles would make me upset. Snacking is one of my favorite hobbies.

4. Late night drives.

Driving around and picking up an ice cream cone at McDonald's is always a good time, especially when the stars are out.

5. Camp.

Oh, debate camp was probably the highlight of my summer. I spent two weeks with some pretty amazing people. While it was two intense weeks, it was two of the best weeks of my life. I miss my friends from camp more than I can express.

6. Having copious amounts of free time to do whatever.

For the first month of summer, I was out of state, but once I got home, all I really had was work once a week. That meant that I had hours upon hours to do whatever I wanted. Usually it was sleeping or eating, but hey, I already covered those and y'all know how much I love sleeping and eating.

7. Beautiful summer days.

I live in Minnesota, aka Minne-snow-ta. Soon enough, the ground will be covered in snow and I'll be covered in a upwards of five layers.

8. Netflix binges.

I just watched all four seasons of House of Cards in four days. If that doesn't explain how hard I marathon, I don't know what will.

9. Summer vacation.

I didn't actually go on a vacay, but I did go to Salt Lake City, Utah and Chicago, Illinois this summer. They were for speech and debate, but still loads of fun. While I'll probably travel during the school year, I'll have to worry about homework, what I'm missing, and make sure to study.

10. Eating ice cream on the daily.

I'll admit, I ate at least a bowl or cone of the good stuff every day. Healthy, I know.

11. Bonfires.

Who doesn't love a bonfire on a summer night? S'mores, good friends, and good music made my summer nights infinitely better.

12. Movie nights.

Whether it be at a drive in or in my living room or at the theater, I love watching movies. Often times, they're one star rom-coms or cheesy horror movies, but there's always the occasional good one.

13. Beach days.

To my dismay, I didn't go to the beach as often as I'd like, but I still love going there. I love feeling the warm sand between my toes and diving into the water. (Also: lil bonus, GIF is from Moonrise Kingdom which I just watched today.)

14. Hanging out with my friends whenever.

Summer graciously handed me the freedom to hang out with my friends whenever we could schedule a time together. With school coming around the corner, that won't be as easy. At least I'll see most of them at school.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
