The art of letter writing has truly been lost in a world of technology. They are much more personal than texts every would be. When you write a letter by hand, it is not only personal but can be emotional as well.
It can be emotional because maybe there are loved ones who do not know their way around technology and so they can't connect. Also, it can be nice to write one to someone you haven't seen in a long time. Such as an older relative who did not grow up with the internet.
When I was in elementary school, we had pen pals. It was either to our classmates or people in other classes that we knew. I would always feel such joy when I received one. I would ask questions to get to know them and I feel like there would be a bond.
Although we aren't friends anymore, I found my letters to see how much of a difference my handwriting is. Obviously, it's much better now and I noticed in my writing, I could be awkward at times.
Years later, I wrote letters to my grandpa. He is in Vietnam, so I would write one when a relative of mine was about to travel to Vietnam. I enjoyed writing to him because I don't see him every day. In Vietnam, he doesn't have wifi and even if he did, he is busy talking to other relatives.
I see him once every couple of years. When I received a letter from him, I was ecstatic, especially since it's a relative of mine who I love talking to. I first noticed the envelope, it looks not only a bit smaller but the edges of it are beautiful. The edges contain red and blue stripes.
When I opened the envelope, there it was, the letter he wrote to me. The letter seemed like it was a line graphing paper. He wrote in pen as well. I know some people enjoy writing in pencil, I do as I'm afraid I'll mess up.
Anyways, finding letters are a gift because they can live on forever. Whereas internet, you may find your letters but it's not the same as keeping it in reality. The only letters I would keep are from relatives, other than that, I toss it out.
Unless it's a letter of recommendation or it's from your job, then I would keep it.
It seems people think texting is easier than writing letters because it's faster. It's true, it is faster but writing letters are more thoughtful. Some of the benefits of letter writing are that you could always improve your handwriting. You could talk about your life, what you're doing now, etc.
I've received some recommendations about writing. One of them is, have nice stationary and a nice pen. You don't have to buy some super fancy stationary if you don't want to.
You can take a piece of paper and design it as your own. Drawing hearts, smiley faces or doodles can help make it more personal because no two letters are the same. They are all unique.
You can also sign it any way you please. It's your letter, you're the author so you can be as creative as you want. You can write with any writing utensils. I heard you can also write with a fountain pen. Granted, it might be harder at first because not many people have the skill. With practice, you can be a master at it.
If you want to have a fancy letter, you can also find a wax and seal. There are many with any letter so people know it's from you!
Here's a challenge for you all! Write a letter to someone close to you like a friend or a family member. Write whatever your mind wanders to. There's no limit.
