It has been almost two months since I finished my first year of college, packed up my dorm room, and said goodbye to my new friends and home. I remember the first day I entered the new lifestyle I was about to take on. I remember sitting at home in denial that I was going to have to pack up all my bags and say goodbye to my friends that have been by my side through everything. I refused to pack anything and waited until the last possible minute because procrastination is one of my fortes. Although, this past school year was one of the best experiences I could have asked for.
College has introduced to me to people I couldn't imagine life without. It has helped me learn my boundaries, and become more responsible and independent, and grow as a person. Adjusting to a new environment isn't easy at all, but getting involved and meeting people who you know will be there with you on this journey in college is very helpful.
Some things I miss about college after being away for a couple months are the company of having friends nearby and having someone to walk 5 feet from and do crazy, random stuff with. I miss being able to crawl into my roommate's bed if I needed company when watching a TV show, or when I needed a shoulder to cry on. Yes, call me crazy, but I do miss those communal bathroom trips where we would all brush our teeth together and sing the silliest songs in the shower or steal each other's towels when they weren't looking. I miss being able to go out with my friends every week and listening and reminiscing on our crazy nights out or what happened in our hometowns.
Before you know it your college life will be back, and of course, you will be missing your hometown, but you will have the new home you have made at college. Your lifestyle will be back to normal, and before you know it Thanksgiving and Christmas break will come around. You will be in over your head stressing over finals, but in the end the stress, exhaustion, long nights and good memories are what make college so memorable.
