Going to a private liberal arts school has many plus points. Smaller community, closer community, and individualized professor-to-student relationships. Going to a private liberal arts Roman Catholic school is a whole other story of its own. But people who don't go to these types of schools have no idea what actually goes on or where it is to begin with. Well, hold onto your seats because those assumptions are about to be cleared.
1. Attending mass every Sunday is a graduation requirement
Although it is a Roman Catholic affiliated school, it is not a requirement to attend mass. That's against the first amendment of the United States. Also, most people on campus are not even Catholic so that would be a little strange...
2. Emmanuel College is an easy school to get into
First off all getting into any acredited institution is no easy task so give yourselves a pat on the back. Secondly, the average GPA for accepted students is 3.62. That doesn't sound easy to me.
3. Emmanuel College doesn't have science courses because it's a Catholic School
With all due respect, that's a little silly. In a time where phones talk back and sass you and you have the ability to shop online while 30,000 feet in the air on an airplane, anything is possible. So yes, the churches of science and religion coexist on our campus. Gotta love the 21st century.
4. You have to take a class on the Bible
No and Yes. No, we do not have to take a class on the Bible necessarily, but yes, we do have a 2 religious courses requirement to graduate. But we have courses from Science and Religion, Exploring the Bible, War, Peace, and Religion to Women in the World Religions, Islam, Judaism, and Hinduism.
5. Only people from Massachusetts go there
Emmanuel is just like every college. There are so many people from Maine, California, North Carolina, and even Miami, of all places.
6. Nuns teach our classes...
I don't even know what to say about this one other than the fact that we do have actual professors teach our classes.
