Miranda’s Declassified URI Survival Guide; Study Tips
For those of you who have been through finals season, you’re well aware of the tradition; pulling all-nighters, numerous cans of energy drinks and lots and lots of snacks, plus the occasional delivery meal at 2 a.m. from the emporium. For those of you who are new to this; welcome to the most stressful week of your life. Constant inner turmoil as to whether or not you should actually begin the mental torture or hold it off.
It’s always best not to procrastinate, so your best bet is to just take the bull by the horns and go for it. I found there are certain things that have worked the most efficiently for me in my situation. Being a marine bio major I take a lot of science and math so hopefully my tips at getting through my chem and bio classes will help you in the long run as well.
May the odds forever be in your favor when you take CHM101.
I’m not going to lie to you and say it’s a piece of cake, but it’s manageable after hundreds of hours of studying. For chemistry, going through old homework or extra work online is the easiest way to drill those problems into your brain. Studying in groups also can help you figure out a problem you’re stuck on. You can all work together and be equally stressed out at the same time!
The lounges in dorms are a perfect place for group studying but if you’re more of a solitary person, the library is a great place to go. The 24 Hour room might be my favorite for the sole reason that it has the snack bar there, it’s so convenient!
Biology classes are easier to understand through flashcards so you can become one with the intense amounts of vocabulary. A lot of the bio classes also have labs you have to take. Take them seriously and listen because some of the notes they put up for that class can be useful towards your exams!
The worse thing you can possibly do is psyche yourself out and say you’re going to fail. Stay positive, deep breaths and gorge yourself in foods that make you happy because it’s going to be tough, but I promise you that if you put in all the effort you possibly can, it’ll be worth it.
