Some say that masculinity is dying. In a world ruled by political correctness and feminist ideology where anything violent or brutish is considered bad in all circumstances, it's hard for the stereotypical, breadwinner male to shine through. Yet, even in these crazy times where the standards are being flipped (many would say in a negative way, this author included), there are certain things that define a man. These are those 4 minimum requirements.
RELATED: How Your Manhood Is Being Taken Away From You
1. Have Your Heart Broken
If you haven't had your heart broken, you haven't loved. If you haven't loved, you haven't lived. This normally occurs around high school and even though those relationships are frankly dumb (in 99% of cases), they serve the purpose of introducing you to caring for another person and knowing how to deal with rejection.
2. Break Someone's Heart
It seems mean, but the one person you need to think of above all others is yourself (at least until you have kids). If you're not happy in a relationship, leave them. If someone confesses their love or interest and you don't feel the same, deny them. Never let anyone else block your happiness in life and if that includes breaking a heart (for a good reason), then so be it. It demonstrates no ambition and a lack of focus for your life, and frankly no confidence, to put your wants after the feelings of others.
3. Get Into A Physical Fight
It sounds callous, and very Fight Club-esque, but a physical fight shows who you really are. In certain situations, do you run or do you fight? If you fight, how do you go about it? Rush in, fists blazing, or more relaxed, systematic, waiting for your opportunity to end it quickly? Are you trying to do as much damage as possible or simply submit your opponent? Knowing how you fight reflects who you are as a person and shows how you handle other situations in life.
This shouldn't be done randomly, with a person off the street. It's not something on a checklist you tick off. However, there will come a time when a fight is unavoidable, whether you're defending your girl or yourself, and it's important to not back down. No matter what happens, you'll learn more about yourself. Do you want to die without any scars?
4. Lose A Physical Fight
If you end up getting into a fight, and you lose, congratulations you've learned a life lesson in humility and defeat. A man can't simply win all the time nor can he be so overconfident that he expects to be better than everyone else. Getting the crud kicked out of you is going to suck and it's going to hurt, but it teaches a lesson in being humble, in knowing when you've been bested, and developing a fire to improve.
The point for all of these is that you can't accomplish them sitting in your room. They require you to step out in to the world, enjoy your life, and have new experiences. Once you start moving, all of these will come naturally.
