Minecraft is something that everyone should know about now since it's insanely popular. Ever since it's acquisition from Microsoft back in 2014 for 2.1 billion dollars, it has continued to grow and become one of the most selling games of all time. Problem with high selling games are the add-ons, pay to win servers, and other exclusive items for purchase.
Now I don't hate Minecraft as I still play it occasionally but I've been a player since 2010 when it was in it's the alpha version, a full year before it was officially released and became insanely popular. When Minecraft started blowing up I was amazed and excited for the game but as time went on things started changing that made it more interesting such as adding multiplayer in the game. This meant that we no longer had to go on the official Minecraft site to play online with others. This would cause trouble and become of the problems with Minecraft as during 2014 pay to win servers started to arise and become more frequent. Pay to win servers are servers where you can spend real money usually through credit card or PayPal to gain advantages such as good weapons, armor or in-game currency. This would allow people who pay to have a severe advantage over those who don't pay and those who grind to get those items. Now the real concern is the kids who play the game. If kids have their parent's credit card information then it is most likely they'll spend it on items within of the pay to win servers. If kids enjoy something so much then they will most likely spend money on it through their parent's credit card. I know this because I speak from experience where I enjoyed a game so much that I spent over $200 for in-game currency when I was a kid. Now the pay to wins servers also have tactics such as advertising and merchandise stores for fans of the servers.
Now has Mojang tried to stop this? Yes, they attempted to by enforcing the EULA rules and blacklisting pay to win servers in 2014 but unfortunately hasn't been very successful as there still are pay to win servers in multiplayer. To this day these servers are still here but Mojang stopped trying to stop them. Fortunately, there are still servers that aren't paid to win.
Minecraft is one of the most popular games of all time, so much that it was acquired by Microsoft. However, like all popular games, they have pay to win content that often plagues the multiplayer element of the game. As a result, these pay to wins servers usually convinces kids to spend a lot of money from their parents. This causes easy cash grab for server creators, and brings unfairness to multiplayer.
