millennials aren’t that old and barely have enough world experience to have their own views, right? Their thoughts and opinions aren’t worth much, especially those in the age 18-25 bracket. They are young, stupid and don’t know anything when it comes to the real world. They’ve barely paid bills, if any, and probably still live with their parents. They aren’t motivated and don’t want to take care of themselves. They dream too big but aren’t willing to do the work.
If you agree with the above paragraph, please stop. Stop judging a generation, whether it be your own or not, that is dealing with the world that was given to them, an economy that was given to them. It’s been said time and time again that we millennials are just a generation of whiners.
OK, yeah. I guess I’m whining about the fact that finding a job after I graduate is going to be the biggest challenge of my life. I’m whining about the fact that buying a house is so scary because of the price tags that exist on the lowest tier homes.
But the financial problems that haunt my generation aren’t necessarily the worst aspects of my generation. It’s the fact that I am automatically put into a box as a young adult, one labeled as "ignorant," "opinionated" and "dumb" because that is all anyone thinks we are.
If asked about politics, we open ourselves up for brutal scrutiny if we answer those older than us. This is not truly our country, and we don’t have the ability to mold the future the way our ancestors did; therefore, we are subject to criticism because of our views and opinions.
My generation was born motivated and excited to reach our goals, but we’ve been weighed down by the negativity aimed at us.
There are those that believe in millennials and know that we are going to change the world, we just need the support of everyone else. If I am asked about my political views, I will be honest. That doesn’t give anyone who disagrees with me the right to treat me like an ignorant idiot. See, that is an unfortunately common occurrence when millennials share their opinions.
Very rarely do I see a millennial rebuttal and rudely criticize that person back. Yet, when we get upset about being treated that way, we are once again labeled as babies.
In reality, millennials are the most accepting generation to have been born. In my opinion, we have the ability to steer the world into a better direction, but we’ve been discouraged time and time again because we don’t have enough life experience to make our own decisions, yet we are mostly lowlives that just want to live with their parents after they graduate college, if they even do.
Stop criticizing the next generation. We’re doing our best. We are not all going to agree on the same thing —that’s the beauty of diversity. As soon as people stop automatically jumping to conclusions about our opinions or knowledge, the better society will be.
Odyssey was made to give a platform for the voiceless to express themselves, and millennials have latched onto this amazing platform. Odyssey is the perfect example of how different minds and opinions come together respectfully. Now it’s time for Odyssey’s values to be practiced in the real world by everyone.
