If you're reading this, you're probably a millennial. No, I am not writing this to bash you. I'm a millennial, too, duh. I'm not writing an article about why our generation sucks and how we're never going to get anywhere in life.
Every generation has its pros and cons. So why is ours under a lot of heat and judgment?
Our generation is known for being lazy, arrogant fools. Unlike our grandparents, we never went through an event that forced us to be generous.
Heres the point: every generation is different.
Your grandparents probably thought the same about our parents that our parents say about us.
Yes, our generation has its cons. Every generation does. We get so much heat because the society we live in is more advanced. Our generation has diverse outlooks on life and a whole new world of technology.
We get so much heat because we are so much different than generations before us, especially "The Greatest Generation."
This generation gave everything they had, down to their last pound of sugar, to support troops. They knew if they didn't, the U.S. would be defeated.
They learned how to survive on basic necessities. As long as they had everything they needed in life, nothing else mattered.
They learned how to do without the things they wanted in life, and only worried about what they needed.
Our generation hasn't been exposed to anything like this, which is why we're so different. I am not saying we need to be.
We are so blessed that we have family members who either lived through this war, or had parents who did because they know hands down what it's like and just want better for us.
Our generation doesn't suck because we have things handed to us, we're just extremely different. We have the things we have today because our previous generations wanted better for us. They didn't want us to see the pain and agony of a war or live through a fear of being attacked every day.
Back then, there was a huge sense of nationalism. Obviously everyone wanted to win the war. Everyone wanted to be involved somehow whether it was enlisting or donating.
Our generation doesn't suck because we get everything we want/get everything handed to us. I think of this notion as a blessing. Generations before us made sure we wouldn't have to go through their hardships and live a good life.
