I have always been easily irritated and annoyed by people who are quick to generalize a group of people or specifically an entire generation. I am a millennial, and I am judged. And if you are a part of Generation Y, then you know what I am talking about. But I am not sorry.
I don't know why, but there has been a lot of criticism regarding Generation Y over the past few years. We as millennials are constantly judged and looked down on. We are stereotyped, disregarded, and called lazy. But I am not going to generalize non-millennials for all being judgmental and close-minded, because I know it does not apply to everyone. But I am going to address why I think we are a special generation that should be positively recognized. We are known to be creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs. You can read dozens of articles about why millennials are the best generation. Anywhere from how accepting and generous we are to how we are the most educated and creative. But we are often called lazy or entitled.
Ah, the two most commonly used generalizations used to describe millennials: lazy and entitled.
Stop stereotyping us. We aren't lazy, we are just hungry for something greater. We struggle with this desire because we don't know how to feed it. That's what makes us so significant, because we were given a hunger. We want more. We want to see more. We want to feel more. We want to create something bigger and better. What is wrong with that? Millennials are story changers, among every generation before, but maybe we are the generation that takes the leap into changing the world. We are full of creators and innovators. We are dreamers and doers. Let us take our leap into being inspired and inspiring others.
It's OK if you don't understand us. Sometimes we don't understand ourselves. All we know is that we are recognizing a craving others have not. We have an attitude of "I should be running this place" or "I need something bigger and better," and that shouldn't be criticized. This attitude should be implemented and embraced. Everyone is called to something greater than themselves, maybe millennials are the only one's chasing after that calling in a different way. Sometimes we are lost, and that's OK; we are just trying to figure out what we want. All we know is that we are a ME generation and we trying to find things that truly makes us happy.
