Miami: Spring Break Edition

My experiences in the "Sunshine State."

This spring break ended up being one that will be remembered. Usually during spring break, it is the perfect opportunity to do absolutely nothing and sleep all day. Although that is still my favorite thing to do, this spring break was more exciting since I had the opportunity to spend it in Miami with my friend, Paola, to visit my friend, Kevin. He lives in an apartment there while attending the University of Miami. Here are some of the great things that we did:

South Beach

Finally being able to step onto a beach again was a great feeling. The water was beautiful and there were still a lot of people considering it was a week day. There ended up being a huge crowd of people who were also enjoying their spring break. It was nice because there were many people who were around our age there. There was also many restaurants and tourist shops along South Beach. I admit that I had my tourist moment and bought a sweatshirt. We also ended up going to one of the restaurants that had great fish and chips. The drinks there that they served were huge and fun to have with your friends.

ROK BRGR

As you can probably guess from the picture, the burger was huge and amazing. They have tons of options of different burgers you can order. While I had the classic burger, there were also burgers such as the “truffle burger” and an interesting one called “fat Elvis.”

Wynwood

This was one of my favorite places that we went to in Miami. In this neighborhood, you are constantly surrounded by art. There are beautiful paintings and street art as you walk through it. It is a great opportunity for you to take many pictures. There are also shops where they sell some of the art which I recommend if you want to spend your whole life savings. However, there are also little stands where people sell jewelry and various trinkets for a reasonable price. I ended up buying a beautiful tree of life necklace and two bracelets. If you are someone who really appreciates art and wants to look at some amazing pieces, then I definitely recommend going here.

Kush

This was my favorite restaurant that we came across which was located by Wynwood. I decided to take a risk and try alligator for the first time. It turns out that people who have tried it before have been telling the truth. It tastes just like chicken. I definitely recommend ordering the “Florida Alligator Bites” from here because it was delicious along with the creamy garlic sauce that you can dip on the side. I also recommend the “Farm Style Chicken Sandwich” for dinner.

University of Miami

This was my first time visiting this school and it automatically made me want to transfer. The campus is absolutely beautiful and huge. My college looks so tiny compared to this one. You can tell by the students that go there that they know how to have a good time while balancing their work load.

Sunset Place

This popular outdoor mall is located close to the University of Miami. This mall is unique because of the beautiful designs and the fountain located in the middle. There are a variety of stores such as Forever 21, Express, Banana Republic, etc. There are also many restaurants and a huge movie theater.

For the first time in my college life, I had a great spring break. I am happy that I was able to see my friends and spend time with them. Miami was beautiful and definitely a great place for those in their twenties. I am already considering coming back again for my next spring break!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
