Mi Mami, A True Gem.

A unique gem that everyone in this world has.

Mi Mami, A True Gem.

A mother's love is something that can never be beaten or replaced. Something that is beautiful and unique. It's a blessing and a gift.

My mom is a true gem and I won't say that makes my mom better than all the mothers in the world, because it's not a competition, and why compare all the gems in the world when the only gem that matters is the one you have standing right in front of you? From my parents, I'm more like my mom - I'm very forgetful and loud, just like she is. I make things a big deal just like she does and I cook just like she does.

From loving me to spanking me, everything that my mom did was out of love and there's nothing that I can do in this world to ever thank her for it. When she lost her job she didn't dwell on it, she got back on her feet in search of a job whether it was cleaning, cooking, or babysitting, she did it. One thing about my mom is that she is not a person that lets people do things for her, she is more of the independent type of person.

My mom has such a strong will and a strong spirit that it keeps her going and it keeps her fighting. I truly don't know where she gets this kind of strength, and even if I did, there's a nine out of 10 chance I still would not understand it. How is it that a lady so small can fight so big? How can a Mexican woman with all odds against her continue to rise? How can a mother so kind and loving care for three troublesome kids? I don't know the answer, but she does.

I will never be able to do the great things that you do or live and understand the hardships that you went through to get to this moment. What I do know is that you're my mom, mi bebe and that's something that will never be taken away from me. I know you'll love us, love your family even after death and because of you there is not a force in the world that can mess with our family.

Te quiero mucho mami.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
