#MeToo, #TimesUp: The Matronymic Lash Heard Around The World

No more will I put up with unfair bias, and get paid less so I say there seems to be matronymic lash against male America.

On Tuesday, November 8th, as the results of the 2016 presidential elections were unfolding, it was becoming overwhelmingly clear that Donald J Trump would be our 45th president. Vance Jones articulated a sentiment that many of us felt, but unable to verbalize with two words: white lash. The results of the 45th Presidential election was a "white lash."

Vance stated: "It’s hard to be a parent tonight for a lot of us. You tell your kids, 'don’t be a bully.' You tell your kids, 'don’t be a bigot.' You tell your kids, 'do your homework and be prepared.' And then you have this outcome, you have people putting children to bed tonight, and they’re afraid of breakfast.

I have Muslim friends who are texting me tonight saying, “should I leave the country?” I have a family of immigrants that are terrified tonight. This was many things. This was a rebellion against the elites. True. It was a complete reinvention of politics and polls it’s true. But it was also something else.

We’ve talked about everything but race tonight. We’ve talked about income, we’ve talked about class, we’ve talked about region, we haven’t talked about race. This was a white lash."

Matronymic-lash

What was more poignant about this election was Hillary Clinton's defeat. America was not ready for a female President. It was clear that "America" as a nation would rather a bigoted, sexist, bully as our president than a female president.

Well, it seems like women around the country heard. And since those results were announced there has been a silent movement, a powerful force with the women of all races, nationality, religion, and background banding together to say #metoo #timesup.

No more. No more will I be sexually harassed or compromised or made to feel unsafe when I am at work. No more will I put up with unfair bias, and get paid less so I say there seems to be matronymic lash against male America. It's almost a paradoxical movement in the opposite direction of the one we see in the white house in bold defiance of the election that was heard around the world.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
