In recent events of yesterday's school shooting in Florida, it had gotten me thinking. " Why do we automatically think that these horrible gunman have a mental illness?" or that anybody with a mental illness should not be able to own a gun. Why do we automatically think that anybody with a mental illness is dangerous? I have a mental illness, that doesn't mean I'm going to go shoot up a school.
When I say I have a mental illness, it means I suffer from anxiety. Specifically Social anxiety. Social situations are hard for me.
President trump said today in his press conference that Mental Illness was the issue and not guns. While I believe that is not true. Guns are the issue! A 18 year old should not be able to get a Mr. Trump, I support you and I even voted for you but to blame this whole shooting on mental illness is wrong and it makes me angry that you think this.
People with mental illness aren't all bad people. To say that Nikolas Cruz shot 17 innocent people because he is mentally not right is not OK. He may have a mental illness but he did NOT do this horrible act because of it. He had a disciplinary problem. He couldn't handle authority.
The issue is people knew he was trouble. The kids on the news even said the all joked about it. They all said that if it was going to happen it would have been him. Maybe if he was watched, by the FBI and people took his Facebook posts seriously and brought him in for questioning when he said he was going to be a professional school shooter, there may have been a different outcome.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims and victims families.
