I am a woman. For years I have always been considered “one of the guys” and I enjoyed it that way. I found that I, for the most part, could do anything they could do within reasoning. Maybe this is because these friends had always supported me to do so or because of how I was raised. We were equal in intelligence, athleticism, and our humor seemed to line up pretty well. So tell me, if a group of high school boys can accept the fact that a girl can do anything they can, why can’t the rest of the world?
I am not here saying that all men are evil because that is not a fact I believe. I am not saying that women are the superior gender here on this Earth, because I do not believe that either. What I am saying is that I believe that women are just as equal to men.
So what does this mean exactly? I believe that a woman partaking in a man’s job should be paid just as much as the man. Woman should not get a decrease in pay just for being a woman, instead after equal pay is issued you look at worth ethic and see which person deserves a raise from then on without being biased. I believe that rape charges for men should be taken just as seriously the ones for women. There are times where men have been taken advantage of and yet those stories seem to never make it to the news. Men deserve justice just as much as women do. I do believe that we must all be held equal and love each other regardless because it is what we are called to do by God.
If you do not agree with what I am saying, I have found some biblical proof to help back me up. God created us in His image, with Him being the one that rules completely over us. No man or woman on this Earth is greater than our God. A God that created us equal. “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion” (Genesis 1:26). While yes, man and woman are clearly different in certain areas, that does not make one better than the other. God made us to compliment each other to further His teachings of His kingdom. (Genesis 2:19-20).
In my final comments I have this to say. I believe in equality. I believe that if God gave a woman the gift to be an engineer, she should not be treated or looked at as less useful than if she was a man. I believe that if God gave man the gift to become a nurse, than he should not be judged for working in what has been considered a female’s job. We are all different in many ways, but the one thing that will be held true forever is that God loves us. Whether you’re a man or a woman, on judgment day we will all be held accountable for our sins regardless of what gender we are. And so I leave you with this..
“I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me” (John 17:22-23).
