Some of the best memories were the little moments, like...
1. Making smores on the old charcoal grill.
Nana wouldn’t let me put together my own smore but would let me roast my own marshmallow. Never really understood her logic on that one. I assume it was her caring nature.
2. Her food was always incredible.
Even if it was as simple as toast with jam folded in half or fresh corn.
3. My recreation of her fried apple butter pies will never stand up against hers.
My pies turned out pretty good actually, just doesn't taste the same as my Nana's pies.
4. When I was a kid Nana would have her own special way of saying goodbye when I was driving away.
She sticks her tongue out at me and winks and she would wait till I did it back.
5. She always attended to everyone’s needs and rarely took a moment for herself or to sit down.
In my family sitting for more than 15 mins wasn't right, you got help out- this goes for the women in the house the men weren't held to this.
6. Her love of candied orange slices.
She used to hide them from my papa and secretly pass me a few when my mother wasn't looking.
7. Her sassiness and quick comebacks.
Which I learned later in life that trait is hereditary in her daughters and in me.
8. Asking if anyone wants a sweet treat when in reality she asked so she could have a sweet treat without feeling guilty.
I thought it was cute that she did that.9. When she is serving food and someone did not want to eat or have already eaten and she gets very concerned at why you don't want to eat.
If you are hungry you won't be for long.
10. Inappropriate jokes that I didn’t get as kid and now find pretty hilarious.
she was very entertaining.
11. Her love of birds.
"Look at that cardinal","look at it"!
12. Bible stories she would read to me before bed or tell me some of her childhood stories.
I would fall asleep and then a couple mins later she would still be reading to me.
13. Never went to church without her clip on earrings on and pink faded leather backed bible.
She was the most well dressed and classy member at her church.
14. Never without tissues, chap stick, lotion, and gum in her purse.
I myself are never without these items either or at least the tissues, gum and chapstick.
15. The funny faces she would make when I looked her way.
I would try to make funny faces back but the moment had already passed.
16. Letters I would get from her with comic strips from the Sunday paper she cut out that she thought I would find funny.
The reason today I go straight to the comic section before even reading the front page.
