Around May of this past year, the daunting idea of "roommates" began to take place once I had chosen which university I would be attending in the fall. It seemed like everyone I spoke with already had everything figured out, and posting on the Facebook page was useless since everyone pretty much said something along the lines of, "I love to watch Netflix and go out, but I'm also very determined in my classes" (how original, right?).
A slight bit of panic had set in, when out of the blue, a girl had messaged me one on one. I was a little nervous talking to a stranger, but quickly we clicked and found ourselves interested in rooming, so we signed our contracts and prepared for a whirlwind of getting to know each other.
During our three-month-long vacation, my roommate and I grew extremely close; we discovered that we shared many common interests and hobbies, both wanted to dedicate more of ourselves to our faith lives, and had similar goals for our futures and lives. I quickly realized that I was lucky enough to have met someone I thoroughly enjoyed and wanted to spend time with all the time.
Fast forward to one week ago, I never thought I'd be more excited to meet someone than I was to meet Emily. It was so exciting to experience the hectic move-in process, go out together, and motivate ourselves to get through week 1 of another 4 years of college.
I couldn't be more grateful that we had met before school started.
The idea of going into a college completely alone would have been very stressful and anxiety-inducing for me, but because of our mutual and instantaneous connection, I felt much more excited and open-minded to the college experience, and I can only expect even more wild, exciting, and wonderful days ahead with not only my roommate, but my first college friend.
