Honestly, I think it was 100% fate that I met you.

I wasn’t going to come to UNR for school. I changed my mind literally the first of August. Somehow I got into the dorms (the nicest one at that), and I was assigned a room with you. Not going to lie, I definitely stalked your Instagram and Twitter before I even thought about texting you. I was nervous. You seemed almost too perfect. I was expecting the worst going into this experience of college with you, but it has turned out to be the absolute best.

You have taught me a lot in these short three months we have known each other. It’s hard to get along with a random person when you sleep five feet away from them, and normally I would be extremely creeped out by this. But we became friends so quickly that I didn’t have time to second guess myself.

I almost immediately knew we were long lost soulmates when I would play random songs and you would sing along to every single one of them. Whether it was from spontaneous trips to California, late night runs to J in the B, or just lying in bed appreciating the presence of one another, I have never clicked so well with someone like I have with you. Thanks for being so great and I am so glad I get to experience college with someone who understands me so well.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
