Q&A with Neal Ricks, Ole Miss SAE President 2015-16
1. What are some daily tasks performed as SAE President?
I mainly deal with whatever tasks the university or my advisors have set for me to do that week. As well as taking care of anything else that may come up between members or other greek events.
2. How do you feel about having the responsibility of so many guys?
It's definitely something you have to think about once you get the job. I try to set a good example for behavior and in other areas and hope they will follow suit. This is helpful for me as well.
3. What is a perk to being a fraternity president?
Fraternity parking.. I have racked up one too many parking tickets over the years...
4. What is the hardest part about being president?
I would say that balancing my school work on top of my presidential duties has been the most challenging. I have also never been very organized, so it has been difficult trying to stay organized.
5. What is the best thing about being president?
I take pride in being able to help my boys out when they need me.
6. With all the bad publicity SAE has had recently nationally, what have you had to do to put Ole Miss SAE in a good light?
Neither Mississippi Gamma Chapter of SAE, nor I, condone the actions of the incidents that have been brought forth in the news recently. The actions of a few individuals do not reflect the actions of an institution. However, we are sensitive to the issues that affect college fraternities and sororities outside of our own. We strive every day to be the best men we can be individually and stand up for what is right.
7. How will being president of a major fraternity play a role in your future?
Only time will be able to tell. I hope it helps me by having that leadership experience, but my goal is to be the best person I can be every day and put the rest in God's hands.
