Meet My Black Lab, Jaynah, Who Lives in Frederick, Maryland

She is the strongest and happiest dog in the world. Except when we leave her for vacation. Then she is still strong, but very, very sad.

Meet My Black Lab, Jaynah, Who Lives in Frederick, Maryland

Jaynah lived in Pennsylvania with us for a while, where she would tear up our lawn in her puppy years. We moved to Maryland and she was living her dream. She had so much land to explore and walk along. Even as she has gotten older and her joints bother her more, she still can never resist a good ole walk in the woods.

About Jaynah:

  • Age: 11
  • Weight: 108
  • Where she was born: Pennsylvania
  • Favorite food: Fresh Pet or Busy Bones (it's probably Busy Bones)
  • Current location: Frederick, Maryland
  • Nickname: Jaynah Bo Baena
  • Best friend: Either mom or dad
  • Favorite toy: Her fluffy lamb

4 Random Facts About Jaynah:

1. Has a benign tumor on her right side. It's been removed before but has grown back with no harm. Just a little extra part of her to show her strength.

2. Has a curly pigtail. When she's sad it will fall straight, but don't be fooled, her tail wags right back up into its curly O when we cuddle and play with her.

3. Cannot sleep alone. She always needs someone to lay with her. Even during the day, she will cry if no one is sitting with her. She loves her family very much and always shows it.

4. Barks every time we try to put her leash on. She will never not bark when we are ready to take her for a walk. Never. Not once has that happened. She is a vocal queen.

3 Places She Loves To Go With Her Human:

1. The woods on our property so she can sniff every piece of nature known to man and get nowhere on our walk.

2. Our deck so she can watch dad grill and almost burn herself while she waits for the food.

3. The front yard so she can lay down when we are literally a foot away from the door after a walk.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
