With today's society, the young are too engaged with the newest electronics and trends, with the crop tops and high waist shorts that do not seem to cover much of your cheeks. The thing that I do not quite understand is how in the 60's the female population was supposed to cover their stomachs and boobs when they went swimming or in public, but with today's age, it is unbelievably hard to find a bathing suit or shorts big/long enough to cover the tush.
As I was doing research for a class I began to see how much the media influences the 'perfect women'. For example, it seems that all women want to be the same. Yeah, being beautiful would not hurt but to be thin, tall, the best skin, and to have the best metabolism. The one question I know I want to know is 'why?'.
When I see the way that the media is influencing preteens and younger about their weight or the way their nose looks, the way they see their self in the mirror is altered because what they see in magazines and on T.V.
When did we get our individuality taken from us? Was it before or after we wanted to be like our favorite pop stars?
During puberty, you are easier to be influenced as you are still trying to identify yourself.
I came across this video that shows how much the media influences without even thinking about it. Seeing every magazine cover that is a 'perfect' girl who may have been 100% photoshopped or a half naked lady. Women are used as a sex-appeal. In commercials to sell alcohol, food, magazines, or even cars. When women are used to sell an object, aren't you objectifying them? Being young, you are naive. You want to be like your favorite pop star or actress, but don't lose yourself along the way.
Don't change who you are because it's the 'latest trend'. This is coming from a girl who doesn't necessarily care what others think of me because the only opinion that matters to me is my own.
