There have been countless times when society has stressed how important it is to take care of ourselves physically. Body image is everything. Think about it. All of those encounters with those crazy gym gurus. They tell you to come get fit at their gym because it's the best gym they have ever been to. Or there are the countless weight loss supplement ads on every single form of media. But what about taking care of yourself mentally as well as physically? Shouldn't your mental health be just as important as your physical health? Of course, it should.
While interacting with your family and friends is just as important to live a happy, healthy and fun life, you can't solely depend on those individuals for happiness because it will be highly unlikely for you to find exactly what you are hoping to find. You might think settling for what you think is right can be the best decision. Settling to be happy is not the best choice. Go for the thing you really want. Anything is possible if you try hard enough.
You need to be with yourself. In order to do that you need to know who you are as an individual. If you don't know who you are as a person, take time to try different things that spark your interest to learn about yourself. Pick up a new relaxation ritual, like meditating or even yoga. Learning about who you are as a person makes it easier for you to love yourself, which is crucial to becoming mentally healthy. All this new found love and energy for yourself will make it easier to recharge and be ready for whatever life brings you next.
Throughout the month, it is important to make “me dates” that way you can relieve much of that unwanted stress that builds up over time. These “me dates” can consist of teaching yourself how to play the instrument you always wanted to learn. Or shopping for the T-shirt you fell in love with but you were never brave enough to get. Or going out for a long evening stroll. Or writing things that make you happy, poetry or even a short story. The ideas are endless. During your “me day,” as well as every day. make sure you get enough sleep so you are able to function. Also, stay hydrated. Water is going to become your new best friend.
Don’t feel guilty! Ever! Your “me day” is not selfish. In fact it is the complete opposite; your time alone offers many benefits. With your "me time" you are able to unwind, recharge your batteries, improve your concentration, give you space for self-discovery, enhancing any of your relationships and countless other opportunities.
