To the girl I used to be,
Hey girl, long time no see! How have you been? If my memory serves me right, probably not the best. Youre probably fighting with one of your friends, or stressing about grades and colleges, crying over a boy, or staring at yourself in the mirror picking yourself apart. That’s what I remember the most about you, how much you hated yourself. I can’t help but feel sick when I think about everything you put yourself through just to feel accepted. Don’t you know youre beautiful? You don’t need to be a size 2 to be confident. You don’t need to have the perfect body to be accepted. You don’t need to push yourself over the edge to make other people happy.
Most importantly, please do not let the opinions of other people define who you are and where you are going. Take charge of your own life and make yourself happy first. You have such a big heart and it’s going to get broken, a lot, but please don’t close it off to the world. You have so much to offer, so please think about what you're doing when you begin to feel worthless and like the world would be a better place without you in it. That’s not the case at all. Knowing you I also know you are incredible bull headed and will probably not take any of that advice, so here are a few nuggets of wisdom to help you out:
- Please read all your assignments so you don’t look like an ass when your teacher throws out a pop quiz.
- Don’t skip meals, food is important.
- Sing at the top of your lungs whenever you have the chance.
- You should probably start flossing sooner than later.
- Listen to mom, she knows what she’s talking about.
- Don’t fight with your sister so damn much, you’re going to need each other.
- Don’t let a boy come between you and anyone, it’s not worth it.
- Stop taking life so seriously, Live a little!
- Learn to love yourself for who you are. There is only one of you, so feel special for that and take care of yourself.
That’s it for now young me. Just remember you have a bright and shining future ahead of you, keep looking to it, you’ve got this.
