Student life in the words of Fall Out Boy.

Whether it be registering for an 8am class, knowing you will later regret that decision, or having to set three alarms just to wake up by 11, life in college is no where near what it was in high school.

Classes didn't start and end at different times and on different days, didn't require you to stay busy or awake in the two hour break between an Honors Seminar in Great Books & Ideas and Urban Anthropology. You enter an entirely new world of adulting when in college; making sure to wash your laundry, clean your room, eat something other than junk food, get on the correct shuttle bus.

And while all of the above is a bit overwhelming and frustrating at times, it is no where near uncommon. From a parent reflecting on their past as a student, to the lyrics of Fall Out Boy, college life is an experience that can and has been described in many ways.

I set my clocks early 'cause I know I'm always late.

"A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More Touch Me"

From Under the Cork Tree

Sometimes before it gets better, the darkness gets bigger.

"Miss Missing You"

Save Rock and Roll

We're the new face of failure, prettier and younger but not any better off.

"I'm Like a Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off"

Infinity On High

I don't know where you're going, but do you have room for one more troubled soul.

"Alone Together"

Save Rock and Roll

I only want what I can't have.

"From Now On We Are Enemies"

Believers Never Die

I wish that I was as invisible as you make me feel.

"The Pros and Cons Of Breathing"

Take This to Your Grave

The best part of "believe" is the "lie".

"Sophomore Slump Or Comeback Of The Year"

From Under the Cork Tree

I'm just young enough to still believe, but young enough not to know what to believe in.

"Champion"

Mania

I've got troubled thoughts and the self-esteem to match.

"What A Catch, Donnie"

Folie a Deux

Am I more than you bargained for yet?

"Sugar We're Goin' Down"

From Under the Cork Tree

I can move mountains, I can work a miracle.

"Uma Thurman"

American Beauty / American Psycho

Doesn't it feel like our time is running out?

"The Phoenix"

Save Rock and Roll

I forgot what I was losing my mind about.

"Young And Menace"

Mania

In the meantime, I'll sport my brand new fashion of waking up with pants on at four in the afternoon.

"Grand Theft Autumn / Where Is Your Boy"

Take This to Your Grave

The best of us can find happiness in misery.

"I Don't Care"

Folie a Deux

We're only liars, but we're the best.

"Our Lawyer Made Us Change The Name Of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued"

From Under the Cork Tree

I don't have the right name or the right looks, but I have twice the heart.

"Just One Yesterday"

Save Rock and Roll

We've been here forever.

"Centuries"

American Beauty / American Psycho

These words are all I have so I write them.

"Dance, Dance"

From Under the Cork Tree

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
