Living in New York, it assumed to say that one should always be on alert with safety. Aside from a high crime rate and a surplus population, New York seems to consistently be a hot spot for danger. This past Saturday was no acceptation to the danger rule.
At 8:30 p.m., on Saturday night, there was a strike that reignited an all-too-familiar feeling with native New Yorkers. An explosion, that later led to the finding of another detonating device not too far from each other, injured a total of 29 people in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood.
An “intentional act,” says the Bill del Blasio mayor of New York City, which had “no specific and credible threat against New York City at this time from any terror organization.” City law enforcement was able to track the power of the detonating devices and state that the blast was a result of a the device in or near a city dumpster. It is currently under going investigation as to who is responsible for this act, whether it be a civilian, an angered worker or, ultimately, a person linked to a terrorist organization.
The device that was located not too far from the one previously exploded is now revealed to be a pressure cooker—these were objects to have contained the explosives in the Boston bombings of 2013, thus, furthering suspicions. The pressure cooker was discovered with a small, written-on piece of paper, of which is still a mystery to us.
Of the 29 injured civilians, one is now is in critical condition. One of the victims spoke out, “I was driving a car and next thing you know, I felt an explosion.” Some local hospitals were checking ambulances by armed guard.
Families in the area heard the explosion from their homes and citizens walking on nearby streets began to flee in a panic, running around with their arms covering their heads. The moments of chaos ensued and residents of the Chelsea neighborhood were, to say the very least, terrified—the neighborhood known for being a fairly quiet in residential and safely busy in the town area, where the night life lives.
Updates are still pending regarding the origin of the culprits behind the destructive minds, and until resolved, New York is, yet again, in a panic state of mind.
