On Friday, June 26th, the Supreme Court ruled that gay marriage is considered a right nationwide. As you can tell numerous amounts of people celebrated with their loved ones, and who wouldn't want to celebrate such an amazing mark in history of America? I may not be a part of the LGBT community but I was ecstatic at the announcement because I knew so many of my friends and relatives who are a part of the LGBT community were crying tears of joy for once and not tears of sadness. Of course when there's celebration and joy, there is also anger, resentment and hostility. As many people were beyond happy for this ruling to finally pass, there were others who weren’t so happy, believing that it is a sin and shouldn’t be allowed in our society. I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
That’s the beauty of being a human being, whether you’re in America or not -- you still can hold your own opinion. Yes, I was raised as a Catholic and went to church vigorously as a child, but that doesn’t mean I believe people shouldn't be happy because they are gay. People will highlight and pin point on all the verses that state it’s a sin and would never be allowed and God will punish those who disobey the Bible, but as a girl of faith I believe that God wants us to be happy. That means accepting those who are different whether in gender, race, religion, or sexuality. I believe that he wants us to come together as one without complications and love each other as equals, not as separates.
By now you are probably thinking, “Oh great another free-minded person ranting about what she thinks.” Well, yeah I can do whatever I want, that’s the beauty of living in America. If you don’t like what I have to say, you can certainly stop reading at any point. I’m not holding it against you, I just want to be heard. My point is that no matter what you believe, whether it be against equality or with equality, people of all types should be respected and treated the way you would want to be treated. Yeah, remember that “Golden Rule” from kindergarten? It still applies to being an adult and it will till the day you pass on from this planet onto whatever you believe after death. We were put or made on this planet for a reason. Not for greed, not for selfish reasons, and not to inflict harm on others; we are here to service each other with the greatest care, love one another even if you loathe them, and to come together to create a harmonic or close to harmonic atmosphere as we can get with 7 billion people.
It may not take one night to complete this or even ten years but with this step, this one single step that lets people who were outcasts in society be happy together and be just like everyone else, signifies that we are heading in the right direction of creating a world just a bit better than the day before. Remember everyone is entitled to their opinion so whether you are onboard with what I say or want to throw your computer out a window because what I said offended you, just remember I became a writer for a reason. On that note…
Thank you for reading! Cheers!
