The truth is every individual thinks in a way that is different than the next. Some people are math-oriented, some are science-oriented, some are reading-oriented. Our mind is a very complex thing. I’ve often wondered why we must have to undergo the pressure of taking courses that our brains just aren’t optimized for. A lot of educators argue that the general education classes we take are to make us well-rounded individuals. I do agree with that statement but I believe some of the classes we take are to teach us life lessons.
I don’t think it is essential that I know a2+b2=c2, but I do think it is important that I realize that for some people that equation may be a major part of their education or career. I am sure there are people that have to learn about the blood flow of the heart that find it unimportant, even though that is one of the many vital things I have to learn to become a nurse.
The biggest struggle arises when we are trying to learn something that is an important part of our education and career path and we just can’t get the concept. It is upsetting as a nursing major to make a 90 on a sociology exam and then make a 70 on a science exam. It happens. Life happens. It is our job to take those curve balls as they come. At the end of the day, if you can leave the classroom knowing you gave it your all then you should be satisfied with yourself. You don’t have to be and probably won’t always be satisfied with the grade, but never put yourself down.
There is always tomorrow!
