A couple hundred LMU students recently attended the annual iLead seminar held on campus. This seminar is designed for the student leaders on campus, like the RAs and members of RHA and the presidents of organizations, along with many others. While I attended this event as a member of FRESH Squad, I realized that we have so many amazing students on campus that dedicate a lot of time and effort to improving campus and the lives of others students.
LMU is greatly focused on helping others and serving the community. From the service orgs, to philanthropy events with Greek Life, to getting involved with CSA (the Center for Service & Action) there are so many incredible opportunities to give back available to LMU students. The ability and encouragement to do service for others is an amazing part of going to LMU. Another great part of attending LMU is the amount of students who want to help other students and make an impact on their campus.
It is one thing to do hard work in hopes of helping others, and it is another thing to do hard work and see those efforts truly helping others on a day-to-day basis. There are multitudes of opportunities to help impact the lives of your peers around campus. From being an RA, to working with Campus Rec, these jobs are so much more than just working on campus.
There are many benefits to being involved with programs that help other students around campus. You get to make an impact on another student's life, whether it be small or large. Especially when working with freshman or new students, it is very possible to leave a large, positive mark on a student's college experience. You also feel more deeply involved with your school. It is easy to feel like a tiny fish in a huge sea when you go to college, but working in positions like these forces you to become more involved and realize that you can have a larger place at school than you expected. All of this work behind-the-scenes of the university will greatly increase your pride in LMU.
These jobs are never simple or easy. They take a lot of dedication and creativity. You have to learn how to adapt and problem-solve, along with many other important skills. I highly encourage anyone and everyone to try to involve themselves with a job like these that can help impact the lives of others on a local level. Along with the other abundant benefits, these jobs look amazing on resumes and give you experience that can help with the "real world" and other jobs in the future.
You may not believe that you are fit for this type of job, but I believe that anyone can find a position where they thrive in helping others. You don't have to be outgoing or loud. You don't have to have huge ideas on how to change and improve the school. Everyone has a part of them that can impact and improve our school.
